that being said i can understand why someone would be such a defeatist about thinking or even having an opinion. if you potentially get your ass kicked because you don't agree with the program, or worse, killed, then i'd keep my thoughts to myself and very close friends

Having an opinion is a waste of time if you can't do anything with it anyway. Politics in the west is a charade. Any new political party is infiltrated by big money if they are ever allowed to grow beyond infancy.

you can do something with it. you can exchange it with your peers, discuss alternatives, come to new opinions and make life interesting. i've never met a more boring person than one who doesn't have an opinion. literally a braindead animated corpse mimicking a real person

Most people who have opinions just copy those opinions from media figures whose job it is to promote those opinions anyway.

i think you're being a bit too cynical and painting an overly dramatic picture using strokes way too broad. have some faith in humans. we're not all imbeciles
it surely isn't. i can't imagine a person not having a single opinion about anything. when it comes to being opinionated, sure, you may have an opinion which due to being ill-informed you take on as your own from more "prominent" figures. hell, i do that for the most part about anything science related. i trust, but not without a grain of suspicion/doubt.

right now there is an increased presence at the ukrainian border. some estimate the manpower there to be ~70k, some less, some more. regardless of what the actual number is: what does your media say about this and what is served as the rationale behind placing such an enormous force there?

Most people can't argue for shit and for the ones who can any discussion mostly ends up being a waste of time anyway. Trust me I have spent time debating stuff both with people who are good and horribad at it.
