This is where he is utterly wrong though, the US had overwhelmingly superior weaponry since they had b52s and helis and heavy artillery vs. mortars and AKs.
Giap was still better than him given he had won both tactical (Dien Bien Phu and First Indochina, 1975 Campaign) and strategic (Overall War Plan) and was the single best logistics general in the 20th century.
Westmoreland was still too dumb and stubborn to not be stuck in an autistic mentality where he thought he was fighting Germans/Japs and just had to capture the flag.

Nah, the NVA had superior squad-level and individual-level tactics but were just hard-pressed by the sheer imbalance of forces and weaponry.
USSR gave literal hand me down 1950s weapons, e.g. outdate planes until later in the war in 1970. China gave useless defective garbage half the time. Weaponry wasn't high-quality. Vietnam made use of that and inflicted 4-1 air-to-air losses on the US by combining it with SAMs.

Dude...the US military was never allowed to do that. "Capturing the flag" meant invading North Vietnam which Johnson and McNamara ruled out early on because they somehow thought they would start World War III with the Soviet Union and China.

The US military punished quite a few people for mistreatment of civilians. Incidents like My Lai were flukes and never condoned by anyone. There is no indication that North Vietnam ever tried any of their own troops for war crimes.

They thought the Chinese would zerg rush the US military again like in Korea, although this was unlikely for a number of reasons. The PLA was in poor fighting condition in the mid to late 1960s with many soldiers literally starving and the Sino-Vietnam border was remote and not as strategically sensitive as the Sino-Korean border. China would have struggled to get any significant body of troops to the area.

The US objective was entirely a "defensive war" in the south lmao, despite offensively invading a country that was about to fall to rebels.
The US literally thought they would just sap their will to fight and hold onto the major cities in the South but they were getting beaten at the squad and platoon level and did not hold the countryside, instead remaining at bases and in cities.
Tet offensive/khe sanh was important because it showed the US could not hold onto cities and had to retake them by literally flattening them, had to abandon or lost firebases and abandoned major bases and the mini-Tets of capturing towns and border ambushes eroded American confidence. These continued until 1971 or so when the US left.
Lmao the NVA like pic related were the only true good guys for throwing out Pol Pot as he was backed by literally all of ASEAN, Thailand, China and the UK/US/etc. The Cambodian war was the most one-sided conflict.

They mostly had autocannons and couldn't match the American jets used in altitude. The pilots were entirely trained to dogfight like in WW2 though by actual WW2/Korean War aces and veterans.
It was also the first a b52 was downed by a jet was by Migs when it came to bomb. Vietnam was the only country to down a dozen of the most powerful bomber in history IMO over the course of 12 days.
