Yugoslavia certainly had problems but it could be reformed and kept alive were it not for outside factors who promoted "democratization" (in their view ofc) and economic "redorms" which exacerbated the bad economic situation which only gave fuel to the ultra-nationalists in the individual republics selling their visions of a romantic prosperous national renaissance who had tacit sometimes even overt support from outside.
People don't simply wake up one day and decide to kill their neighbors with whom they lived for decades up until then.

They explained how during cold war, USA did help Yugoslavia to set it as an example of socialism that does well without bending down to Moscow and hence harm URSS reputation

But when URSS started faltering, Yugoslavia lost this role, and USA tried to make it fall to make socialism look like a lost cause.

Yugoslavia needed money, and tried to ask for loans from the IMF, because they expected that USA would help them, as they have done in the past. USA made the IMF ask for "austerity" reforms before loaning them the money. Yugoslavia implemented everything because they blindly trusted it's ally. After doing the reforms, the IMF asked for more. And more, and more. The USA plan was to never give them any help, just keep asking for reforms and let Yugoslavia dig it's own grave.
