it's a meme, we've always had spices here too and spicy food
we have local sauces notably mustard and raifort which is pretty much the same as wasabi
later on basque cuisine for example integrated a lot of spices from the XVth century onwards and has mostly spicy meals nowadays

we usually don't put a ton of it because it ruins the meat
only valid reason to spoil their meal with spices 3rd worlders have is because it kills bacteria but otherwise it just tastes like spice which is fucking shit and does not qualify as good food, it's the 21st century and you people should learn to cook, it's not that it's too spicy it's just shit, i'm sorry but all this meme spicy food is really shit
