Ottawa GH is actually one of the best hospitals to work in within Canada, and I also assume it's one of the best to visit. Quebecois visit often, but thats true even in Toronto, since a lot of the time for specialist tests, you're better off referring patients to other centres for tests than to buy the equipment yourself if one's nearby. Gatineau's situation makes sense since it's smaller than Ottawa, but I didn't know about the reimbursement refusal, I'm going to look more into it because it sounds controversial

However whenever I have visited the US everyone seems to be less healthy overall and there are a lot of weird advertisements on your TV for drugs or health insurance that seem annoying.

Universal healthcare is great for when you're young and fit for example, and you don't need specific healthcare cover. When you're older and you need more services, then private cover works really well. That's how it is here.
