Learning a new language requires constant input to your brain. The brain is too good at spotting and discarding irrelevant information in spite of what you think is important. If you're in an environment that primarily utilizes one language (ex: USA), then it's much more difficult to learn a second language because you have to actively make that language you're learning 'vital' to your everyday life.

Many Europeans are bilingual because English is present in their lives (media, forums, etc) without much effort on their part. This allows them to learn it with relative ease, compared to an American learning something else.

I speak the regional language, my country's language and english as it's the lingua franca.
If I wanted to, I could easily learn a forth, although I don't have time and I'd rather have proper classes than internet classes.
I can understand Catalan, Portuguese, Italian and somewhat french, but that is the hardest.

English is world wide and english speakers feel entitled.

What do you mean entitled? It's just a natural consequence of everything being in our language. Literally any other peoples in the world would end up the exact same way if their own language was the lingua franca.

Learning the lingua franca doesn't make you as open minded as someone who learns a different language. You got that shit for free.

I learned english to post on Jow Forums. The teaching in schools here is not advanced so I had to lurk a lot before posting.
I'm learning spanish now. The case is basically the same I experinced with english. Shallow teaching in school and I'm assuming from here
