Jow Forums quality of posts are tanking. Lets try to bring some constructive threads back.
>Mining There are concerning things going on in the past 3 months, mining revenues are so low ppl turning thier rigs off and putting them on ebay.
This week the crypto-mining community realized bitmain is the babayaga/cancer of our ultimately shitty and diveded community and they are much much bigger and powerful than we imagined.
>Monero hardfork It happened a few days ago and guess what more than 80% of the total hasrate were asic miners. Scary, no better word for that. This is a blatant attack on the decentralization of cryptocurrency.
>Ethereum Vitalik gave us the middle finger. Price is tanking. Eth will not hardfork in the near future and the devs are totally ok with asic miners infesting the network, atleast for now.
i have a few rigs hashing around 400 mh/s overall with eth but i'm thinking of selling after hearing about eth limiting the supply. is there anything else to mine with AMD?
Dominic Murphy
I rarely come into biz anymore but for some reason I did and clicked this thread.
I want to get into mining. Maybe I should start checking Craigslist and eBay for rigs..
I currently am loaded on mineable coins... ZEC, RVN, VTC, UBQ, EXP... the asic drama has me wonderin what will happen with these.
I ordered a dcr1 asic a while back.
Dominic Stewart
It was no secret for a while, asic manufacturers are selling thier used equipment as new when they have the new better generations ready.
Thier business model is very simple: they dump the old used shit on customers when with no/very low warranty times when they have a new, better platform ready to mine and they know the older generation miners will not be profitable in a few months.
Small irrelevant victory over the centralization efforts of asic manufacturers but still a victory.
I’m all over shitcoins, waiting for better times. Monoero did good and i’ll set some rigs soon. Well, meybe it’s time for eth to go asic but those cryptonight/eqihash asic miners don’t really outperform a decent amd or nvidia. Funny how it is. I’m keeping a cool head with a little bit of optimism.
Eli Morales
Mining has gone from being a solid investment to a very speculative gamble. I'm mining a mid-tier coin, have been for half a year now. My ROI has bombed from 6 months when I started mining to around three years! I'm not fussed really, I see mining as a fun hobby rather than a get rich quick scheme. Maybe I'll make some gains, maybe not. Whatever, I like looking at pool stats and seeing one of my workers find a block.
Levi Morris
This.
Also we know now they have been mining Monero, ETH and it's safe to assume they do the same with Equihash coins. I assume they will launch Equihash compatible miner soon as well.
Nobody is sure what to do about it. Coins could start forking to force Bitmain to update their mining software but that's cat and mouse game. Maybe if enough coins do it, Bitmain would not be able to keep up with them.
CryptoNightV7 is the way for AMD. Mining revenues x4'd 2 days ago. Sure the profits will tank soon but the past days were very good for amd miners in general and this was the only good news in months. I only use high end nvidia cards so its not that good for me money wise, but still awesome news. >I currently am loaded on mineable coins... ZEC, RVN, VTC, UBQ, EXP... the asic drama has me wonderin what will happen with these. no idea thats why I started this thread and possibly will continue my efforts in the next days. Same cande and fud threads posted over and over, very annoying.
My advice is: dont start anything big. Look for used very cheap amd cards and try it out. Investing heavily in mining is very stupid now. Downtrend is going strong for 4 months now and I dont think we reached the bottom yet.
Josiah Davis
Well,i think it’s easier and faster to update a pool than to program an asic, asemble it and market it. They are shipping out those x3 asics maybe in a couple of months. Monero updated in a month of rumors spreading, and they didn’t expect that asic intrusion, but now they are aware of it.
Dylan Thomas
>I assume they will launch Equihash compatible miner soon as well. yeah I was think about this a lot. At this point I think almost every estabilished algo is infested with asic miners, we just dont know it yet and desu why would we? they are making a bank on the expense of miners and investors, we are holding/keep mining the bags they dump every day.
What the hell is going to defend us from 51% attacks? I'm not a crypto expert, I have lot to learn and all (lets say Im still a newbie) but I think the whole network is controlled by asic giants.
Ryder Edwards
mining rewards will be slashed to 20% in ethereum in the next 4-5 months, so unless that is delayed forking seems pointless. theres no value in forking ethereum otherwise either, because none of the tokens or projects or developers come with the fork.
Ian King
It’s not alarming, they are not that good and waste alot of electricity. They really need to outperform next gen gpu’s what they will not.
Josiah Butler
I hope some people here have been mining a certain coin that became minable in the last week or so. Not going to mention it here but I've mined $600 worth in the last week but things are starting to slow down now. I was a day late getting in on it and it took me a few days to get my 2 1080ti's working so I can't even imagine how much some people managed to mine.
Anyone know some other quality coins who are going to be minable soon?
Gabriel Cook
PSSSST
Adrian Rivera
So that's why I can suddenly mine Monero at 3 the speed? Last week it was so slow I almost considered stopping.

there are threads in bitcointalk with convos just like this. 30pages of hostile bs.
I mean, yeah I got it, more ppl jump board less piece of cake for you but this toxicity is the reason asics control everything and NH can pay pennies for desperate miners.
Carson Thomas
Does anyone know how to buy bitcoin with a non-bank debit card (prepaid? I guess you call it).
I’m currently getting a bank account and all, (paying off debt) but I’d like to be able to buy/sell without needing a bank account. Tbh it seems kind of hypocritical
Ryder Murphy
Is that unheard of?
Should I buy mining equipment when people start offloading there stuff?
Or is the technology outdated? I’m waiting for all the miners to start offloading there stuff when they stop being profitable, hoping to set verything up and hopefully wen things pick up again i’ll Be easily profitBle because of the cheap equipment? It’s to hard to brr
Is this a bad idea?
Christopher Wilson
well yes and no. If you dig in the deths of forums its full of "hurr durr I earned 1k in 2 days with an 1080ti noobs" and ppl arguing and posting the same shit over and over.
Early bird gets the bread? Yeah you can gamble with coins that are not listed on exchanges but you have to choose carefully and research well. Tbh I dont had luck with any new projects but I dont really have time to lurk on bitcointalk.org for hours and Im pretty bad at judging new projects.
well everything is a safe bet compared to new coins. most projects are dumped the moment they hit the exchanges. gonna check them newshitcoinz
Angel Myers
>he still plans to mine >he is a small time miner
Are you guys brainlets or what Crypto mining has and will always be an Autists hobby They drewl at the thought of passive income Too bad the income is enough to buy a fucking pizza slice a day
When you spent 10 grand up front What a great idea
I have respect for the early adopters tho that were mining
They were rewarded for mining coins worth cents when no one gave a shit. All you trend followers dreaming of 100 dollars a day passive income need to fuck off
Carson Bennett
Awesome. Take a look at this Yenten. It has a great community behind. No fucking premine, no ico, only CPU mining, also nobody knows who devs are. Seems serious stuff. Let me know your opinion.
Aaron Flores
What do you think of x16r/Ravencoin?
Ryan Cook
its already forking to pidgeoncoin and what not. 2-3 months ago ppl who mined made a bank and I was stupid enough to not do it. It think it got the same shitcoin treatment: hit exchanges, everyone dumped bags and moved on. atleast its a asic proof algo but they said the same thing about other algos too. It was a good project, mabye still solid.
Jayden Thomas
>All you trend followers dreaming of 100 dollars a day passive income need to fuck off one can dream. without asics it would be still good passive income. Also rich ppl have 100k passive income per day and its sustainable because the system is rigged against the masses. You talk like dreaming about puny 100bucks a day passive income is bs.
Connor Sanchez
I never plan on using mining as my only source for income. It supplements my job, not replaces it.
Sure at current prices it's $10 a day with my low end rig. But that's $10 that requires no effort to get.
Carter Gomez
>biz post quality tanking It wasn't at rock bottom since day 1?
Nicholas Allen
>You talk like dreaming about puny 100bucks a day passive income is bs. It is bs because it's not sustainable in a market as saturated as this one. You can get lucky mining a shitcoin early but that is not the norm.
Caleb King
Can someone explain how mining works to a brainlet and why running a few miners for btc isn't just >automatically profitable given you run the thing over a long enough time frame?
its fucking waltonchain and nobody gives a shit about that chink scam
Aiden Hernandez
mining bitcoin (and bch, litecoin, dash, sia and some others) requires an ASIC which are loud, expensive, have no resale value unlike a gpu, and eventually become worthless doorstops when the difficulty rises enough
Are you seriously that retarded? It's switching to PoS - already in testing. Moneyskelly just thinks it's a waste of time doing a hardfork to anothe PoW first, better using the resources on the other stuff that needs doing. So Eth will never need to worry about ASICS again. Not only that, but the ROI for Eth ASICs isn't that great - Bitmain BTFO.
John Robinson
The Casper design only has initially 1% of the total emission coming from proof of stake. The other 99% will still be proof of work.
Justin Garcia
>ROI for Eth ASICs isn't that great - It's like 200 days. Depending on power costs.
Kevin Fisher
You can mine on mining pool hub, any algo your rig is best at and get paid in the coin you want. LTC, eth, etc.
Nothing ($300/month mines ONLY ZER privacy coin) but when stores are sold out of video cards for months (Los Angeles) I can't ignore the fact this could possibly become a scarce item (gpu) when mainstream learns how mining generates $$$$ game over
look everyone, the average permavirgin angry biz shitposter. >ROI for Eth ASICs isn't that great - Bitmain BTFO. bitmain sells asics when they are no longer profitable, thats why you break even sucks because they are selling you 1 year old technology, used hardware as new.
aids skelly also said miners dont have to fear asics, the moment they infest eth they will hardfork. looks like you have to impress small time miners as long as you are small yourself. fuckface. take you drooling autist toxicity out of here.
James Wood
>its about brand I bet you also think the porshce gayman is a porsche
they are nowhere near msrp. but they're not inflated to the retarded prices the chinks where selling them at
Andrew Fisher
>not inflated to the retarded prices the chinks where selling them at ive seen reference 1080tis for msrp on newegg maybe 2 weeks ago. I no longer check gpu prices but one thing is sure, here in eu ppl keep giving me offers around 600-650bucks for top quiality aftermarket 1080tis which is sad. you can convert your usd gpu prices to eur prices 1on1. Thats how fucked eu is. + some countries are even 10-20% worse than that. for example GB, eastern eu, austria.
William Gutierrez
there's no value in hardforking ethereum, classic already exists for that purpose, and will be what miners/asics flood to. forking ethereum today leaves you with a shell of a network, littered with contracts, tokens, projects that are either broken or useless as nobody honors those forked tokens.
pos on ethereum is a good thing, but it's also probably going to be a good thing for ethereum classic.
Nolan Gomez
>pos on ethereum is a good thing agreed, gonna be intresting to see what happens after they leave pow.

I really should learn how to overclock my 580's, only getting roughly 2kh out of 3 cards is the shits, Ive been thinking about getting a 4th and overclocking 3 of them since I use one for gayming.

Nathaniel Rodriguez
>pos on ethereum is a good thing actually its a failed consensus mechanism that rewards the rich for doing nothing and being lazy and leads to oligarchy but i guess thats what you get from a russian faggot autist like vitalik the nakamoto proof of work consensus is the only decentralized mechanism

>It happened a few days ago and guess what more than 80% of the total hashrate were asic miners I thought the whole point of the fork was to stop asic mining

Sorry I sell my hashing power to be paid in Alts. Ask me how much I made from directing 16 ASICS to be paid in XVG for the last two weeks.
William Sanders
me and my gf unironically call our rigs "children". Wish I stopped at 5 gpu but the revenue was so good at that time...
Im waiting for the bullrun but at this point buying coins would have been the better choice
Aaron Hernandez
I mined a small stack back when it was CPU mining. Since I read the whitepaper I realized this is future.
If Bitcoin is digital cash, Ravencoin is digital assets.
This could displace the fucking stock market. Look for Bruce's talks about the inefficiencies of the market that are baked in over the last 80 years. It's trash and needs to be taken out.

>rewards the rich no other way to do it without centralization, you have to award proportionally. >for doing nothing they're doing the exact same job miners are doing today, just without the power wastage, and the country/geo centralization you get with power prices and hardware availability. in all a good staking system is significantly more fair and decentralized. >the nakamoto proof of work consensus is the only decentralized mechanism only when done correctly, and as seen in bitcoin where the chinks have a hugely disproportionate hashrate, well over 50%, getting it wrong has disastrous consequences (chinks stalling upgrades, contentious forks, artificial fee inflation, etc).
Zachary Foster
>XVG Sorry for your lose. But seriously though why not get paid in something worth more?
Levi Jackson
did you not notice the coin triple in price?
Easton Baker
so anyone figured out how to disable the gpu hash cap for this shitcoin?
>>for doing nothing >they're doing the exact same job miners are doing today wrong. they literally do nothing but leave coins sitting in a wallet. proof of work requires constant re-investment in faster and more efficient hardware or you are left behind. it creates a feedback loop of economic activity from chip designers, component manufacturers, electric utilities, shipping companies, etc.

I sold all of my RX570s from last spring for $100 per card. I have completely made back my investment from hardware alone. And still have the psu, ram, mb and cpu. Kind of want to see if I can snag new cards for cheaper, but I dunno. I miss mining, but the profits weren't that great anymore
Justin Davis
why didn't you just continue the operation?
Ethan White
I'm moving and I see that gpu prices are coming down. I'll probably just wait for the next set of cards in anything to release and pick up a couple with the profits from this last batch
