Honestly they are too few people to ever be truly independent.
Even you could barely do it and the Faroes are so much smaller and closer to Europe.
If they leave the kingdom (not in the EU either) they're gonna be completely alone against Russia, the US and Canada. Which is just an impossible task with 50000 people. In the end they're just gonna replace us with the US/Canada.
