The "richer" bit is somewhat of a stretch, western Poles are poor as shit and the unemployment there is highest in the country (it would fucking skyrocket if half of them weren't slaving in seasonal jobs across the German border). The crime rates are definitely higher, they score less in school, the divorce rates are higher.
My father is from lower silesia (his father was resettled from the Lwów area after the war) and lets just say that until I started visiting the family from his side I've never witnessed such destitute poverty and everything being in the state of disrepair.
