I've seen many slums in Itajai (at the border of BR-101), Blumenau and the continental region of Florianopolis. Also, there are a lot of favelas next to downtown. Big cities on SC are as shit as big cities in anywhere else in this country.

I am yank but ive lived in Brasil and Favelas are everywhere. I was in Sao Paulo city for 3 days and saw at least 10 different favelas. If you drive for 15 minutes in Brasil you will see favela. I dont believe you have only seen one.

I live in the downtown and it's really comfy, but there are many shitty neighborhoods im this city . The problem is poverty, people do not have anything to lose so they become criminals. Normal people like you and me choose to be criminals because it pays better than being a honest worker (some do not even get the chance to work legally). The state should intervene more but they just let slums grow and become worse. There is no city planning, the government only cares about the areas where rich people love, or where commerce/industry is locales, and let the rest of the city grow. It's really depressing. Fuck politicians
