Because in every fucking animu, the female main characters always get a cold from the stupidest fucking reason (stand outside in the rain for a few minutes = you get a cold). Not only that, but instead of it being a real-life cold (i.e. you have a runny nose and sore throat, but essentially nothing more and are still able to go to work or school), it's always a huge disease which forces you to stay in bed, gives you hallucinations, or other stupid gimmicks of that nature.
Naturally, some people forget that animu and real Japanese society are two different things, therefore they assume that either Japanese colds must be completely insane, or Japanese people are complete hypochondriacs.
Frankly, the whole "anime cold" nonsense is really fucking annoying. Nowadays I practically can't even continue watching a series anymore whenever they resort to that dumb gimmick.

Maybe it's another disease than the western cold? Also, guys catch colds (whatever they are) too in anime. But rain doesn't make you sick and cold weather doesn't either, as far as I know. I'm not sure but these things might weaken your immune system. But then a virus or other germ is needed too, not just rain.
