You should read about the aftermath of the Indonesian coup in 1965. The CIA helped it along a bit, but they mostly needed no prompting to just go out and butcher every communist in the country since they just saw the whole thing as a front for Chinese imperialism. The ironic part was that unlike Malaysia, the communist party in Indonesia actually banned ethnic Chinese from its ranks.
