Yeah, sadly. It doesn't help that plenty of walking stereotypes painting an easy target for people. This happened even under commie rule, painting "gay people" as an example of the western "degeneracy" that is a boon to humankind.
"Homo" is an insult even middle schoolers use, for fuck's sake. People are taught to hate gays by their parents and by the school playground culture.
Being gay was actually decriminalised back in the 1800s, where we were under Ottoman rule, but it quickly became a crime again after we got our own state. It got decriminalised a while ago, again, but it didn't really help much. Gays are still mocked and ridiculed.
I honestly wish I could move to a central European country, or a northern one, but if I don't know the local language, I won't migrate. It's a huge bother. Bongs are quitting the EU and the only English-speaking country (as in, official language, used by 99% of the population). They're drifting away from my reach, and I may live all of my life here, in Bulgaria.

Will it be possible for a Bulgarian to move permanently there, become a citizen, and get a house in the countryside? A temp visit might be possible, but I want something more. At the risk of sounding like a traitor and attracting the scorn of many people, I want Bulgaria to remain a distant memory in my head.
