They're sometimes on the news and you can sometimes see yakuza buildings (usually old and not very obvious) but you know it when there's always people in suits wandering around when other normal guys would either work in office or something
You'd see a lot of them if you go to poorer area or rural area
They're usually quite okay with civilians, and they usually try to hide their identity and wear, act like a normal person other than the boss, who's basically wearing suits and acting tough for others to fear them and for people to not look down on them

I actually met a few in a bar when I was studying in Tokyo. Tattoos, one of them had a missing finger, in their late 30’s, it’s like they were straight out of a movie. They were very friendly, but very, very drunk. In the end it was a nice night out, and I even met up a few more times to have a drink and talk.

Looking back on it I really should have been more careful. When I told my host family, they looked at me like I was crazy.
