There are people browsing this board right now that genuinely and unironically believe in """god""" or some other kind...

>there are people browsing this board right now that genuinely and unironically believe in """god""" or some other kind of retarded supernatural stuff

why are shit countries so prone to being riddled with religious mongoloids?

why's it retarded then, I want to hear your enlightened opinion

there's no evidence for deities.
it'd be like believing father christmas is real.
fucking retarded lmao

Not a one is a valid argument. Not one.

would love to hear how some bloke on Jow Forums has managed to disprove something philosophers have poured over for centuries

I'm not gonna read some retarded article on wikipedia.
make an argument or stay silent, don't post links.

based

>there's no evidence for deities.
That's a poor argument for a plethora of reasons, the simplest of which being that God (in the Abrahamic version at least) is a metaphysical entity. Of course it can't be proved within physical means (i.e. via the scientific method).

>Aquinas did not think the finite human mind could know what God is directly, therefore God's existence is not self-evident to us

It's actually pretty interesting, and the Wikipedia article itself is rather short.

But if you insist on remaining ignorant, then knock yourself out.

that sounds particularly convenient and vague.
in fact it sounds so vague and abstract that you could literally change it to make it fit everybody's argument.
like when religious people denied the evolution through natural selection, but now that there's a shitload of evidence for this they adapted their abstract as fuck "god" to fit in by saying he was the one that made evolution happen all along, it was in his plan.

if there's no proof for it, there's no real way to claim it exists, you can propose it exists, but not assert it does.

Which is why any arguments over it are pointless. It's faith for a reason, you can have it or not and you can gain it or lose it but you can't precisely justify it to someone without it beyond simply the desire to have it.

All atheists should read Sade and embrace hedonism, that's all

>like when religious people denied the evolution through natural selection
religious people invented that theory

>convenient and vague.
It's an argument which I worded in a single short sentence, so that shouldn't come as a surprise. But if you disagree, then pray tell how exactly one would go about proving the existence of a metaphysical entity.

>like when religious people denied the evolution through natural selection, but now that there's a shitload of evidence for this they adapted their abstract as fuck "god" to fit in by saying he was the one that made evolution happen all along, it was in his plan.
Whataboutism

>if there's no proof for it, there's no real way to claim it exists, you can propose it exists, but not assert it does.
All of that rests upon the idea that truth cannot exist outside of the observable, empirical, material world, which is a dubious stance to take.

what the fuck are you talking about

>then pray tell how exactly one would go about proving the existence of a metaphysical entity.
you can't, that's why it's fucking retarded to believe it exists.
I'm not talking about being spiritual, it's ok to not know what's beyond the universe, but it most definitely isn't a fucking god becaus its definition doesn't make sense, and how it's described in many religions like the abrahamic ones makes it even more retarded.

>Whataboutism
what's your point?

>All of that rests upon the idea that truth cannot exist outside of the observable, empirical, material world, which is a dubious stance to take.
no it doesn't, truth can obviously exist outside the observable, empirical world, not really outside the material world though.

>be me, god
>create everything and everyone
>give humans a limited perception of the universe, they cant see me because I dont have a physical body, lol
>they dont believe I exist, wtf
>tell some fucktards to write a book about me
>condem for all eternity those who did not read my best seller
>forgot to use a univesal language which cannot be misinterpreted and will hold up in time... nvm they will translate it
>they start writting fan-fics and fight over which one is better, they even kill themselves xD

I read this, it's fucking stupid.

Accepted this when I was like 12. Only downside is that I'm absolutely terrified at the concept of death. I can't handle the thought of my conciousness fading into blackness for the rest of eternity.

why not?
it's the same as before you were born.
if it didn't bother you then, why would it bother you now?
if you have no consciousness anymore it'll be kind of difficult for you to give a fuck about it.

As Sartre pointed out humans beings are afraid of freedom, they have to hold themselves to meaning to act and live.
Otherwise nothing ever existed, for them.
