Worst empire

Worst empire.

still better than your monkey country

The Dutch weren't an empire of land, but an empire of trade.
IMO, the opening of the Dutch port in Dejima is one of the most impressive "colonial" feats in history

a meme empire for a meme country with a meme religion

What makes it so special?
The trading post is really insignificant compared to Portugese and later English trade with China.

The difference is that China actually wanted to trade
The port itself was probably insignificant to the Dutch, but the fact that they could convince the Tokugawa Shogunate to let them trade during the closed state period shows that they were good negotiators. The Portuguese tried the same thing and were kicked out.

based Spain

t. Frederico Henrique de Nassau

>an empire of trade
Yea, they didn't even enforce Dutch in Indonesia and instead just used Malay, the trade language, in the region.

The Dutch are honorary Jews

We didnt have to manpower. Dutch empire is massively overblown. It was nothing but outsourcing and divide & conquer.

>China actually wanted to trade
What about the Opium wars? Military action to prevent trade doesn't seem like they wanted to trade.

>The Portuguese tried the same thing and were kicked out.
Good point, the Dutch must have done something right.

They also invaded Brazil and tried to conquest all our territory, but that was not under the Dutch official companies, but under Dutch West India Company, a company founded by mere merchants.

I agree. One of the most empires that were the most efficient in running economy

That's what I like about the Dutch Empire. As a Korean which is fucking small like peanut compared to China and Japan. The fact that Dutch Empire succeed despite competitions from larger countries like France, Habsburg, Spain, England, etc is very impressive. (Same for Venetian Republic as well.) It's kinda said that Korea became the Poland or the Ireland of the East rather than the Venice or the Netherlands of the East and is unlikely to be like the Dutch Empire in near future

Interesting

The opium wars were after the trade posts were already created, no? The wars expanded them (because Britain is a more traditional empire in that sense), but the Chinese did want to trade, just on better terms, and not opium. I might be wrong about this though desu

Both companies had government enforced monopolies and had the power to declare war on behalve of the Netherlands. The East Indian company even got control over every Dutch vessel east of Cape Good Hope

You basically privatized your colonialism through the east and west dutch india companies

>As a Korean which is fucking small like peanut compared to China and Japan. The fact that Dutch Empire succeed despite competitions from larger countries like France, Habsburg, Spain, England, etc is very impressive.
Well it was, but it all ended with a British-French-German grouprape so in that regard we share the same fate as Korea.

You forgot we also conquered the UK. And before the Netherlands existed the Salian Franks here conquered France.

Yeah and Karel de Grote founded this country

>Both companies had government enforced monopolies
Their monopolies were enforced, but the Portuguese one was violated, kek.

that's just because nips hated were scared of catholic missionaries converting their people
