New study: Chinese cities are BIGGER than expected

According to new demographic research, China actually has 15 megacities (urban areas with 10+ million people), not just six. OECD researchers using satellite imagery created new urban area maps for China, following guidelines used for other urban areas around the world. What they found was incredible:

>1. Shanghai - 34 million
>2. Guangzhou, Guangdong - 25 million
>3. Beijing - 24.9 million
>4. Shenzhen, Guangdong - 23.3 million
>5. Wuhan, Hubei - 19 million
>6. Chengdu, Sichuan - 18.1 million
>7. Chongqing - 17 million
>8. Tianjin - 15.4 million
>9. Hangzhou, Zhejiang - 13.4 million
>10. Xian, Shaanxi - 12.9 million
>11. Changzhou, Jiangsu - 12.4 million
>12. Shantou, Guangdong - 12 million
>13. Nanjing, Jiangsu - 11.7 million
>14. Jinan, Shandong - 11 million
>15. Harbin, Heilongjiang - 10.5 million

How are you preparing for the Chinese century, Jow Forums?

>not enough Chinese in one city!

Why are W*st*rn organizations like the World Bank and IMF always suggesting such bullshit to developing countries?

is this real life?

>tfw I've been in a city with 34 million people 4 times.

Chinese cities are so dystopian looking

This isn’t a new study. People have known this since 2014.

Has China not invented trees yet?

Megacities are dystopian looking*

Nuke ‘em all

No clue but it appears Brits haven’t invented corrective vision.

Tokyo region has 38 million, though.

Kim will fix your problems.

Mainly just because of all the fucking highrise appartments. Japan and even South Korea to a lesser degree do residential urban planning much much better.

>Just let everyone in and trust the free market to provide housing, bro!

Attached: Beijing basement apartment.jpg (3264x1829, 585K)

It's difficult to build a lot of new housing quickly unless you use a cut-and-paste template. It doesn't look great, but it's decent enough for residents.

>spineless liberal pussies whining about their shitty lives
Oh yeah that must mean our country is terrible, ok

Seoul looks exactly like Shanghai

The commieblocks, air pollution, meme river people suicide in, and giant phallic skyscraper for national pride.

It looks atrocious. Hopefully as they continue to develop they eventually get rid of it.

>facts hurt my feelings!
Okay sorry dude

bpr.berkeley.edu/2017/10/31/the-scourge-of-south-korea-stress-and-suicide-in-korean-society/
Second highest suicide rate worldwide since 1997.

Even the expensive suburbs are like that, for now.

Attached: Suburb.jpg (3786x2135, 2.09M)

Seaol has way more comfy neighborhoods though and much of shanghais comfy neighborhoods are being demolished.

Attached: 14607010197_f49cb2130d_k (1).jpg (2048x1475, 1019K)

Yep basically.

Guess where most Americans used to live in the 1930s-1950s. Urban apartments and townhouses.

You’re already seeing a flight to the suburbs in China. But the average Chinese person needs the only housing they can afford.

stop the boats

>comfy neighborhoods

You do realize that I lived in Seoul in the 1990s and those “comfy neighborhoods” (like pictured) of today all got demolished and rebuilt? You people have absolutely no understanding of the world.

Seoul demolished all the slums in the 1980s and 1990s. The “comfy” places were simply rebuilt.

The biggest reason we have such a high suicide rate is because our citizens don’t get psychiatric helps they need. THAT is a fact, dude

businessinsider.com/countries-largest-antidepressant-drug-users-2016-2

You's'll still have a high suicide rate even after you fall for the Freudian scam

That's perfectly fine though. They can be very new and still be comfy. Most residential areas in jap cities look new but are top tier comfy.

>cities
they're ant farms. china should spread out their population more, they have plenty of space

Attached: 13372251.jpg (2031x1200, 685K)

>You's'll still have a high suicide rate
Because a random Australian shitposter knows better than psychiatrists

This but unsarcastically

Shanghai alone has more people than many countries in latin america.

Attached: 1427776625814.png (241x228, 102K)

One day they'll come knocking on the door and telling you to open up and trade on their terms, or else. You'll miss US imperialism.

stay strong

Yeah and extensive parts of Shanghai look exactly like the district you pictured.

Shanghai is Seoul twenty years ago, just as China is Korea twenty years ago. The comfy slums and fire hazards will be demolished because home prices are 100times annual wages.

Not providing more supply is basically saying “hey all you poor urban people, fucking live on the street”.

went to a city with only 4 million a few times and it was shit. cant imagine going to one with 8x as many and all of them being insectoid panfaces

tradingeconomics.com/china/rural-population-percent-of-total-population-wb-data.html

>44% of Chinese live in rural areas, 650 million people

Guess what Denmark’s rate is.
Now who is the ant-like race?

>you’ll prefer one imperialism over another
>either accept our cock or their’s!

Ever consider the possibility that nations do not need to choose?

>Shanghai is Seoul twenty years ago, just as China is Korea twenty years ago
Oh no no no

what a shit bait

Sorry that facts have a truth bias

how can such an ugly race of people breed so profusely

and a liberal bias

They always need to choose. Always.
Life is shit and then you die.

public amenities that dont generate a profit for the state are considered pointless
like clean air, parks or toilet paper

Not entirely; the central area of Guangzhou includes a large park.

But don’t let facts get in your way. Chinese are simply incapable of fixing their mistakes or righting their wrongs.

Honestly sounds better than just destabilizing and hold coups in thheir whole entire region just for resources.

Shanghai has a forest and two nature parks in the middle of Pudong.

But don’t let facts get in the way of your memes.

How do you know? When was the last time China invaded a European country? A Latin American country? Africa? The Middle East? Australia?

When is the last time China’s invaded these places like an empire?

When was the last time these places invaded China like empires?

How? Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, etc. There's no big difference.

Imagine being drunk and trying to get back to your house in this neighborhood.

china strives to be an authoritarian communist dictatorship who violates free access to internet, freedom of press, right to have children and freedom of religion
dumb zhang lee you are braindead

I doubt it, Americans have always lived in houses, were not europe.
