If a state has the power to allocate resources for equality, who oversees the state corruption? If an individual comes up to make a claim, but the majority say it is not true than everyone's voice is not equal. Ergo you went from Oligarchy (capitalist) into Oligarchy (communism). What remain true to this day? Power is wielded by a select few, always has always will.
Profit arguably is. The freemarket principal of supply and demand transcends human laws. Prohibition did not stop the demand of alcohol. Cigarrette taxes do not stop smokers from buying smokes daily. Cocaine is illegal but has a billion dollar black market industry. Obesity has myriad of health risks like diabetes, cardio vascular disease, heart disease, impotency but humans still eat whatever the fuck they want. Human nature gets what it wants, eventually.
This assumes your comrades have your best interest in mind inherently, unlike the rat race of capitalism.

Crony capitalism is an oligarchy that does not follow free market principals. Automobile loans
bailouts/loans of General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler is high treason. If the demand for jobs exist, then a new company would fulfill the role. It is not optimal, the model can always be improved but corporate welfare is rampant. dont even get me started on the too big too fail private banks and insurance companies.
Finally any economic system needs a military to enforce 'equality' for the workers or to 'persuade' it's citizens to pay taxes. None model today can even exist without a military of power to defend from outsiders and of course it's own people.
