South africa was once first world now its a deteriorating third world shithole with ever increasing crime, corruption and unemployment. What possible change could have led to this?

I can't right now, barely got any money to go to another province and live there, parents still paying their debt from 20 years ago, but I've considered america if I get enough money to go anywhere
my biggest concern's just not getting flak for being non-white, I already don't fit in with anyone here as a result of that
I barely go outside, other than for work or to buy basic essentials from the street shop nearby or paycheck shopping by a nearby mall
I have grown up in an odd situation of not being dirt poor so that the house is falling apart, but not rich enough to be decently middle class due my family's poor money management; my parents wanted me to have a great education however, so I'm socially cut off from anyone in my local vicinity due to belonging to "the white culture" in a predominantly coloured/black area (there are some really nice people here though, like this black christian mechanic over the street who my dad talks to about religion) and can't afford to go to where any of my school peers frequently; it's humiliating to the point of self-hatred. A thing to note is that with education, what becomes very notable is the clear divides between races, but due to usually having to be well-off or having a social support structure for that you don't notice how extraordinarily difficult it is to actually fully understand the different social situations of each, which only comes with experience of these cultures, like how well-off people cannot understand the concept of waiting 5 months to get a new phone, having to budget for it and all, likewise poorer people disregarding mental health entirely for being an extraordinarily expensive and nebulous process.
