japan is a great power and can vaporize america anytime even though america can retaliate too, and so the vassal meme is a nonsense. the advent of nukes made military contest among great powers pointless.
good colony management isn't confined to infrastructure building. also, postwar aids were pretty important too. it's not a coincidence that sk experienced the rapid economic growth after rapprochement with japan in 1965 and that the scheme was devised and led by a president who was a former japanese military officer.
