Grandfather lived in Wrocław (Breslau) and was 13 when the Nazis invaded. He was riding his bike in a courtyard when a bomb exploded nearby and riddled his legs with shrapnel. Someone dragged him to safety. His older brother was a spy because he spoke fluent German and was nearly beaten to death by the Gestapo. His uncle was a chichociemni (elite paratroopers) who died after the war. He got stuffed in a cattle car and died of exposure on route to Siberia.

German army does not necessarily equal nazi. But I wouldn't know his personal beliefs on Slavs or Jews because he's dead. If I had to guess they were peobably in line with what most Western europeans thought(and still do).
