No, it isn't. You get much less back from your taxes than you take advantage of. Most people don't realize how incredibly high the taxes are in countries like mine and yours. The VAT is especially bad.

don't worry about the cost to the society individually as it is borne by the people who is going to contribute back into the economy
even if a few people lose it on the whole scholarships are and have always been a net positive for developed countries

It would certainly be beneficial to the poorest to do so. Simultaneously, it'd make all the productive people leave, so it'd really be shooting yourself in the foot in the long run. We should simply abolish as many taxes as we can, instead.

Sales taxes are flawed because many places/states that hinge on them think they can form the core of a state budget. However they fail to realist that peopel don't ramp up spending suddenly just because they have less taxes to pay. Also burdens the poor and middle class a lot with the former getting fucked by it in places that hinged on a sales tax.
