I was eating Italian food all wrong until I moved to a big city and got a girlfriend who was interning at the United Nations.
We used Yelp to "scout" for Italian food and all the 4-star and above establishments only had about a 95% hit rate on what she would consider "real italian food"
We did end up finding a few though, and to no surprise they were establishments owned by real Italians, not Italian places which were owned by a family who came to the US in the 1920s. So if you see a restaraunt that says "since 1910" or whatever, it's still American shit. Do yourself a favor and find a real italian to help you look for their authentic food over here, and then you will be surprised how incredible it is.
