Been doing work experience and even though it's not strictly what I'm training to do it's *sort of* related, I'm not really enjoying it and real afraid I'm not gonna like any of it and the last two years of study are going to be for nothing.
All I want is to get financially independent; a small apartment, food, water, internet and a little savings for a break every now and again.
I've been reading a lot into web development lately and am really starting to regret not just going and doing a TAFE course in that like I was thinking of doing.
It's all fucked and I just want to move out and start my own life. I'm just fucking sick of leeching off other people, I want to live for myself, I want to be proud of what I do and look around and know that I earned everything I look at.

Well I'm sort of in a biological like medical research facility, curing rare diseases, sequencing genomes. Buuuuut I have absolutely no biology knowledge past what I had to learn in high school; bones, tissue, organs, cells, etc. I'm surrounded by PHD's and masters students, there's not one person around me who works in a position I would be in my degree. *Apparently* they're looking at hiring someone for that position soon, but I'm 60 hours into my 75 hours required and no dice.

I know no one really likes their job but yeah. I'm not getting paid, and as described above - completely out of my depth. Next time I look for work experience I'll definitely be asking the question, "do you have any analysts/data scientists on board your company at the moment which I'll be working with?"
It seems dumb not asking that to begin with but they advertised a position for a data analyst so I assumed they were expanding their team, not just starting to build one.
Who even takes someone on for work experience if you don't have anyone working that role at the company? Should have just told me "sorry, we don't have an analyst on board yet but should do in a few months; we'd love to have you for work experience then."

Well I was told, "they'd be hiring someone." I sort of assumed that they might be able to mentor me or I could shadow them for awhile and just see what they do day-to-day.
So far not one person has been hiring, the closest I've heard for the past few weeks is, "we're still doing interviews."
And because the lady who took me on doesn't really have a clear grasp as to what I was should be doing she first had be designing websites. After I said, "hey I'm not really meant to be designing websites, more so looking into data," she then said she'd assign me analyst type work so I was excited. Buuut because she's a researcher it's literally biology research type work that I don't even have the first clue how to approach and have been given close to zero information to go off - see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pathway_analysis
It really does, the whole reason I took this unit was to get industry experience, and here I am sitting in a research facility that feels worse than university and haven't even talked to anyone with the title close to what my degree gets me.
I guess it's my fault for not looking into it more but I just jumped at the first opportunity thrown my way; they wouldn't hire me for work experience without thinking about what I'd actually be doing, r-right?? - know the answer to that one now
