Why are there so many more Amerindians in Latin America than there are in the US and Canada?

I feel like Amerindians in Latin America are undercounted, and the ones in the US is an overcount

It really depends on how much non-ameridian blood you consider is too much for someone to not be counted as an amerindian. Most of us here are mutts (pardos). I have a significant amount of amerindian blood and also look somewhat like one, but I don't identify as such (I identify as pardo), which is what they ask in the censuses.

That's innacurate. Both the US and Canada have more Natives than most Latino countries (except a few), we do have more per square kilometer, mainly because all of our countries are smaller than yours except for Brazil, but even then, Canada has a lot more natives than most South American countries proportion wise
