There's no requirement for Australians to give up their citizenship in Britain. In fact, believe it or not but they can work here and vote in our elections without having UK citizenship or any qualifications at all beyond proof of residence.

Section 44 clause (i) of our 1890s constitution prevents a member of parliament from having an allegiance to a foreign power. It was designed to keep yanks, germans and russians from achieving positions of influence at a time when "foreign" meant "not from the Empire". Times changed though and now the High Court interpret "foreign" to include the UK, NZ and Canada, which is a pain because a significant number of Australians have families that emigrated from the UK or NZ.

to change the constitution here you have to pass the amendment in a public referendum that also needs to pass in a majority of states. It's expensive and historically the Australian public have tended towards a "no" vote on technical changes like this one

This is interesting. Over here you can only have dual EU citizenships or you can have an ‘inactive’ citizenship you received upon birth in the Netherlands (coincidentally Turkey and Morocco do this).
But because of our government appealing to right wing voters by going after a handful of dual citizens we don’t allow anything else anymore and if we we are going to make exceptions, Turks and Moroccans will freak out which is not worth a handful of people.
