Kelantan was sidelined and punished for 22 years by Mahathir when he was the PM because they voted for PAS. Agong is from Kelantan. That's why PH didn't win a single seat in Kelantan and Terengganu. In Terengganu when PAS won, Mahathir cut off 5% oil royalties to the state. In Kelantan, oil royalties was never paid. Mahathir would rather build oil rrefineris in Songkhla, Thailand than seeing Kelantan developing.

Its not just Kelantan, even Kedah was forbidden from selling agriculture land for industrial purpose to ensure sufficient food supply since Mahathir wanted a 50million population back then.
