The radar being active beforehand is what allowed the Israelis to pinpoint it's location. With the radar turned off it's just a truck. Leaving the radar active on a weapon with no ammunition is just asking for it to be destroyed.

Usually drones scan the area first. Plus these vehicles DO have some sort of alarm device that screams when something approaches. My point is, the operators fucked it up and got killed, in situations like these you should be alert 100% of the time.
