It really depends on which town they come from. Northerner/mountainer maronites tend to be darker because they are purebreeds whereas the ones from the coast/south are lighter from years of admixture and trade. Muslims have dwelled in the coast longer and have therefore more prominent "light" features. I say we're all mutts in the end.

Arabic was developed by proto-Nabateans and Aramaics in this area of Southern Syria and North Jordan called Hauran. The oldest Arabic inscriptions are found here, they date to around 300BC if you look for inscriptions from the same era in the Arabian desert you'll find they're all Semitic Yemeni languages which are totally unintelligible with early or modern Arabic. Historians now accept the theory that Arabic spread to the peninsula and thus "Arabised" the people there because of the superiority of the language in comparison to the Yemeni ones. This notion of Saudis being the "real" Arabs is one big LARP due to Islam coming from that area
