This doesn't mean that they're entirely X, it's whichever is more prevailant. Like how Japan is 1st world despite pumping out hella industrial goods.

The theory where first world means US-aligned countries is kind of outdated, I think people use it in common talk as a synonymous for rich country where citizens enjoy a high standard of living, at least that's what first comes to mind when I hear such term.

This being said, Sweden for example would have been 3rd world for being Neutal, but now they are first world. That is of course assuming everyone is agreed to no longer rely on the American system of definition considering the cold war had been over for nearly 30 years now.

If your nation is stable enough for it to make money by simply passing money through it, then there's no doubt that it'd be a 1st world country off of that assumption.
It mostly carries over to second and third world nations. China is wealthy and second world, and Mexico is relatively underwhelming while being a second world nation. However, it is up in the air on what the Chinese are at this point really.
