Is it worth learning German, or is it a dead language at this point seeing as everyone speaks English?

I wanted to learn it, but then i realize that is hard to find deutsch movies and tv series with deutsch subtitles.

they guy who took the pic must be so glad because he dodged a bulled

Worthless seeing as they are replacing themselves with arabs and Africans

Listen up, if you try to learn a language for no reason apart from usefulness or easiness instead of the one that really draws you, then there is a very high chance that will end up learning neither language, ever.

Exterior motivations like economical considerations or an utilitarian perspective are very weak in motivating a person to learn a language compared to those that come from within, like an intellectual interest, cultural affinity or linguistic curiousity.

In fact these motivations aren't sometimes even enough and in many cases too fleeting (if they don't border obsession!) Actually, Language learning also requires discipline and good habit formation skills. So, what kind of person are you? Do you think there is enough to bridge the Interest gap with discipline and habit? Do you really think you could learn to love the language by construction a vector of interest in finding some aspect of the target language that could motivate you? Will the available exposure to the language you have create a positive feedback loop that can keep you motivated?

If you get an German tv series in a DVD, it is surely spoken in German, but shouldnt there almost always be German subtitles included for the people with problems in hearing?

At least in Finland there is Finnish spoken DVDs which include Finnish subtitles for this reason.

dude, that's way too long. I'm not reading that.

The sad truth is that foreign language skills, in isolation(in just one or two languages for example), don't have a very high return of investment compared to the potential time investment in any other professional skill that could be honed in order to make money but they can be a big plus to any other skill(s) you might possess.

This doesn't mean that language study can not be a very rewarding experience.

Indeed, there seems to be this strange expectation that the study of foreign languages can't be just done for pleasure or self-improvement. No one will tell you to stop playing guitar, saying that it is useless but this is something people say about foreign language study all the time.

If you take your studies seriously and make the conscious(!) decision to put your language to use, then the first few phrases you clumsily string together might be your first steps into the discovery a whole new world, one that you weren't even aware of in the first place.

Places you would've never went to. People you would've never talked to. Friendships and bonds that would've never formed.

So go ahead with your gut feeling. Pick Italian, Indonesian or even Xhosa. There might be that that point in the distant future where you are looking back at this moment and think: 'Wow, this is how it all started.'

Not gonna make it.

>these are the faces of the aussies who shitpost on this site

too late, faggot, I'm already starting :^)

It is a dead language. Forget about it.

Learning a language for usefulness makes the most sense to.

Especially if you actually use it. (eg. Spend a year there)

>anglo thinking of learning another language
that's cute sweetie but you should give up

yeah, probably seeing as most yuropean countries already speak English.

why not to learn Spanish?

Ordinary Germans, especially girls, already speak English fluently
Why you even bother to learn German

Well it's a beautiful language in my opinion and there's a lot of great literature you could read without translation then
But it's not really necessary unless you want to live in Germany, Austria or Switzerland

learning a germanic language is a waste of time considering those speakers have a very good english and in the future the native speakers will shrink

learn german if you want to read books or watch movies in german

>wanting to learn spic
no, too common and ugly

Wow, smart German poster on Jow Forums! What a rare thing.

I absolutely agree with you.

Yeah, having studied German and spending a semester here, you really don't need to know German, at least not in a city.

its a dead language. we are also going through a massive transformation of the language right now since our youth is basically foreign and many foreigners here never learn proper german.

they speak a bastardized version of german. the end result of that will become the new standard german.

dude, just watch german dub of american movies and series. everything that is even slightly popular has a german dub.

this feel when german sounds pretty good for me, but i know that it doesnt make sense to learn it if im not in Germany. In my opinion you can learn some part of language from books but if you dont practice by speaking with natives you will quickly forget what you had learnt. With english its other story cause this language is almost everywhere
