Yeah. Most cities are expanding their transit infrastructure, even if it's on a small scale.

no, imagine how much time/money it would take to get rid of these freeways. not that im opposed to it but US has been car country for a long time

Fuck no, we're extremely short sighted and generally selfish about any public infrastructure projects.

Why do you think so many people are fat? They KNOW that the food is bad for them, will make them fat, etc but they decide to eat it anyway because the consequences are slow.

Unironically no, at least not in our lifetimes.

As much as I wish they would, no.

Attached: train lines.png (1010x362, 568K)

Some cities that are growing are, like Charlotte NC has laid out a pretty good light rail system.

After electric robot cars. Market will fix it because they will be better.

In LA, probably not for a few decades. Too many homeless for public transport not turning into piss-soaked schizo mobiles.

how is that possible when americans don't live in the cities lol?

Public transportation may sound nice and all, but in all fairness it's 2-3 times slower, packed full of human waste, and in the end costs about the same as just driving on your own.

Do you really think Europe isn’t nothing but highways and congestion?
Most Europoors here are students but the average working Europoor with a family uses a car to get to work and so does his wife.

Go back to yurop you semenslurping faggot cucks. Tell me where you homos live so I can drive my F450 right through your houses.

True.

I’ve also noticed a lot of cities are seeing more development inside the city than the suburbs, and that helps support more transit, which in turn encourages more city development. It’s a feedback loop.

Too many stupid hicks to make that happen.

>and in the end costs about the same as just driving on your own.
not really

Why do you act like running transit means taking away your F-450 which wears the fuck out of the roads?

Why do you act like transit is anti-American or socialist when it’s actually cheaper than building and maintaining highways?

ebin fairy tale there, ol' chappy
where's yer blog, son?

Question to any burger, besides San Francisco is there any city that has trams in the US?

I couldn't imagine living without them.

Attached: D90_110903_391.jpg (1100x731, 166K)

It will N E V E R happen because our car lobby is ingrained into every level of society.

He's a complete idiot.

>in the end costs about the same as just driving on your own
Not even close.

Amsterdam-Rotterdam by train is like €30
He’s right. Only students with free PT passes think it’s the future

If it could be done profitably, it would have already been done long ago.

Yes absolutely unless you live 1 busride away from work

How often do you need to take it?

And if you take it often why live in the wrong city?

Yeah. For the first time in a long time, American cities are running more transit and several have built light rail. Salt Lake City, Charlotte NC, many others desu. You’d have to look it up. But I think Atlanta has one too.

For the first time in American history, multi-family development has outgrown single family (like suburban houses) so we’re seeing more and more transit projects but still nothing like EU/Japan.

What we need is high speed rail desu.

>Only students with free PT passes think it’s the future
See see Special interests frequently impede progress/good things

I take the bus into town, then subway to work.
38km every day one way.
I save 40% or more every month compared to when I drive.

My point is that something as simple as connecting our 2 biggest cities part of the same urban area costs so much, it’s clear that’s not perfect or even cheaper than taking the car.

LA had a massive system that got torn up after WWII. It's wrongly attributed to scheming car companies when it was actually due to returning WWII vets who wanted to live in the suburbs and own cars.

Attached: PEMtLowe1890s.jpg (1567x918, 292K)

It is profitable and there is private high speed rail being built in Florida and Texas as we speak.
The only real problem is derpublicans fighting it every chance they get and fighting for more oil subsidies cause I honestly think transportation is too complex for them to grasp.

I wonder when leftists are ever going to accept that people don't want to sit on a bus next to homeless guys who smell like stale urine and vodka.

Interesting. Thanks.

The USA was like Europe before 1940
Every town had them

You should read Reluctant Metropolis if you’re going to talk about LA. It never had a massive system but it did have one.

Americans only “preferred” cars because government subsidies and government infrastructure projects were designed in favor of cars. Free Markets have never chosen car-dependent infrastructure above public transit in any case.

>I couldn't imagine living without them.
t. Suburb dweller

They don't have to worry about homeless as much because their countries have working mental healthcare. But you wouldn't know that since you've never left Ohio or whatever shithole you live in.

c a l i f o r n i a

>californians being retarded
as usual

Car dependent infrastructure is way more socialist and dependent on government funding than mass transit. Dunno what gave you the idea mass transit is “left”.

California has the highest homeless population in the country and there's scarcely a Republican to be found anywhere there.

>It never had a massive system

>Suburb dweller
No I live in the middle of the city.

I just creamed my pants looking at this image

Actually we don't have working mental health care because SJWs demanded we shut down the state mental hospitals back in the 80s on the grounds that it "violates" the rights of mentally ill people to lock them up and pissing on yourself in the street and harassing tourists is just their choice of lifestyle.

It’s a phrase some villager that just moved to Amsterdam would say.

oh bloody brilliant

>SJWs

Do we have any guys who study transportation on here?

Funny thing about roads/highways is when you add lanes they actually become more traffic-clogged; it’s called “induced demand”.
The main reason it’s bad is because cars are the most dangerous and expensive way to get around and when you build FOR cars your infrastructure becomes infeasible for every other mode of transit.

I love cars actually, but healthy cities are about having *options* for transportation. Pro-transit people are not trying to get rid of cars, but in the US the car is your only option.

A quick visit to San Franpsycho would confirm that.

did you grow up in the city or did you move there for studies? he implied you're a hillbilly

I would like for cars to be off limits in certain parts of the city, like the center. Have cars only really used to get between cities, and even then, have better train or subway systems that make it easy to get from big city A to big city B without a car.

I’m implying that some stupid dramatic phrase like “I can’t imagine living without [something not present in my village but present in my city]” is often something said by people that just arrived

imagine not owning a car lmao yuroPOORS

i text big titty milfs at 1 am if they want to fuck and then i DRIVE to their houses and /cum/ inside them. lmao kys fags

>tfw America will never go back to being a normal country

Attached: upset.jpg (266x190, 8K)

Other states literally ship them here. It's called "Greyhound Therapy."

i know, that's what i said

The entire centre of my city is off limits for cars and soon busses

Attached: 8B445472-7565-4C1B-92DF-58B223E23FC7.jpg (1152x769, 489K)

I've lived here since I was born 24 years ago.

What city is it?

It was thanks to Reagan, not SJWs.

You were born in the centre

4 km from my apartment yes.

Yeah, North America really needs a high speed rail system. There’s a private one being built in Florida and honestly the proof of concept is probably going to cause Republicans to change their tune on transit and start building high speed rail in other places.

To make cars off limits in the city center like they have in Europe, you need to have a lot of other transportation options around. Train to get to the city, buses/bikes/uber/sodewalks around the city, and the city has to be densely developed enough.
In most parts of the world this is normal but in America the government has subsidized cars over everything else so long it has skewed things badly.

That's just as bad

Alright well maybe you really can’t imagine life without a tram then.
Over here nobody is born inside cities really

it's groningen

>There’s a private one being built in Florida and honestly the proof of concept is probably going to cause Republicans
Lol
You think republicans care about fake proofs?

Here most hospitals are located very central.

not even those people birthed by secretaries that took CEO dick?

4 km from the city centre in a city with less than 100 000 people in it. he's not from the city centre

i'm going to butt out of this friendly discussion now by the way

Most new ones are build next to highways now. Ours is still in the centre and it’s a mess with ambulances
Not many no. Mainly immigrants are born in cities. People move out of town when they settle. Only ‘hip’ couples with 1 child and 1 cat or Muslims remain in cities really

Yes if:
>japan/germany annexed USA during ww2
>China/Europe annexed USA during ww3
Else no, you will be complaining about other cunts pollution problems while you all drive trucks for everything that's not in the range of your hand

Attached: Students_pledging_allegiance_to_the_American_flag_with_the_Bellamy_salute.jpg (370x290, 72K)

literally no chance
I ride my bicycle to work everyday and people treat me like a novelty
a day never passes without some fat fuck mentioning that it might rain on my ride home

You must have a hot body. Gosh I really want an American bf

Attached: 1525071403496.jpg (228x221, 14K)

Stop hogging the lanes at 6mph you faggot. Get a motorcycle.

we have proper bike paths and bike lanes like a reasonable city should
though I still take up a lane if it's a smaller road

give visa pls

I hope not. We must suffer. We must be slaves.

I'm assuming you're female and not gay, so I'd be willing to be your bf m'lady ;)

>trucklets

Isn't LA doing it right now though? Complete overhaul of zoning and building codes, expanding light rail for billions, I think even taking away lanes from roads in some spots. At least what I read a while ago.

>For the first time in American history, multi-family development has outgrown single family
Maybe for the first time after WW2.

Nah you will never get your people out of their cars

Freeways get rid of themselves if you just leave them be.

Maybe work on the fundamental structure of your society if you have so many homeless people who smell like stale urine and vodka.

>mentally ill person dismentals mental hospitals
Like pottery.

>boohoo fucking cyclefags get out of my way so I I'm less inconvenienced chauffeuring my fat ass around in a noisy 5000 lbs metal barge blowing several pounds of CO2 and other polluants per mile in the air

Can't have big car lobby without car industry
: ^ )

>right to change line for free doesn't exist

Instead you have the faggots who try to make the public transportation a better option NOT byt improving it, but by hindering driving with bullshit restrictions and tarifs.
