That's mostly because of political conditions. French, Italians, Spanish and Portuguese had a fuckton of conflicts between eachother in the past thousand years. Western Slavs would have probably been the same had they had states of their own and not been subordinate to some outside conqueror. Just look at Russia, they are seen as antagonists even by other Slavic countries, 10x more hated than an Italian would hate a France for example.

The Romans borrowed a lot from the Greeks; in fact, since they were much more talented at law than they were at philosophy, they barely improved on what the Greeks had already built in terms of philosophy. Similarly, we borrowed a lot from our neighbors in terms of art, but were also major innovators in regards to literature, philosophy, science, political science, warfare and law. I don't see how you can dispute that.
