If the whole continent is called America、what should Americans be called?

If the whole continent is called America、what should Americans be called?

Uniteds? Statians? Yankees? Statesmen?

In French, United States = États Unis, it's possible to call them états-uniens, and United Statian is also a thing

But that's the entire continent

Americans. They've earned the name to themselves. Two time nuke victims wouldn't understand such a victory.

Good point, how about school shooters?

It's brilliant logic, really. THE America, because there was no separate country to call America at that time. Places that didn't speak English don't even count, so you can't talk about Indian tribes. Just like China has been called All Under Heaven, in Chinese because Chinese people are hearing it, but no, you never hear anyone complain about that.

>The continent is named after us
No it isn't,the continent was called "America/América" even before the States existed.

Americans. We're the only ones that matter anyway. Well, us and our hat.

This was earlier

dixies will get mad tho

We were the first sovereign western-style nation formed in the Americas, so therefore we got to claim the name 'America' for our country instead of making up something else like Mexico, Brazil, Chile etc had to.

That said, 'statesman' would sound pretty cool, desu, if it didn't already have a meaning in the english language

Dixies are just Yankees that chimped out because they of "muh state rights"
