I actually don't disagree with this, but when you're comparies the OG Macedonians to other peoples/cultures, maybe they weren't "Greeks", like under a Greek umbrella, but if you expand your gaze one level higher, Macedonians and Greeks are definitely under the same, larger umbrella that I would feel comfortable calling Hellenic simply because we lack a better term. You know what I mean? Sure, they weren't like the other Greeks, but they spoke a language that, even if you don't think it was ""Greek"", was similar enough to other Greek languages that we then refer to it as a Greek language because that's marker we have. We don't have a term for "Greek-like" cultures and languages other than the word Greek or Hellenic. So you can your golden star for saying "b-but the Macedonians weren't technically Greek", but they share so many similarities with them that in lack of a distinct other term for the umbrella that they all objectively fall under, Greek is easiest and most logical choice. They're light-years away from Slavs, so that's not even something to bring into this debate.

Why even bring up slavs? This just goes to show how muddled discussion can be when discussing the issue. There's too much nationalistic vitriol in the issue. In no short part because modern Greeks and Macedonians bickering over people who lived in the region more than 2,000 years and trying to claim them as part of their cultural history.

Likewise I don't disagree with saying the Macedonians fall under the Hellenic umbrella but certainly not under the Hellens umbrella. As for the language issue, I don't think it's been clear yet. We have some sources like in the trial of Philotas where one of the charges against Philotas is that he was speaking Greek more than Macedonian and Curtius Rufus in the trial states that the Greeks had trouble understanding the Macedonian language.
