That show is popular entirely because it mocks northerners and the poor. Very little of it is real, but it's real enough that it isn't outrageously unreal. Using this show to represent Britain is disingenuous. You don't go on national television to fix your problems. People love to look down on others and cringe, so the media will often draw attention to or invent idiots so the idiots watching at home will feel superior.
