I am Greek

I don't know anything about them other than they kept the Roman Empire going (at least in name) for another 1000 years, until they lost Constantinople to the turks, had a good chance of reconquering it after WW I but fucked up hard and now they seem to have an okay-ish state going but they will most likely never regain their past glory.

When I was growing up there was a kid in my neighborhood who's family owned a pizza place and they were Greek. They had a really Greek name like Kapadakadis or something like that but they were all really dark skin. The kid was short and fat and he had a full mustache by the time he was 14. His sister had dark hair on her arms. So this is how I thought all Greeks were.

When you're in the North American diaspora of one of the Christian peoples to the East of the Greeks - Caucasians, Lebanese, Assyrians, etc. - then you have trace the steps of a whole continent to know how things get from one point to the other, and that starts, as the saying goes, with the Greeks.

However, I don't think I've ever met a Greek person, so I wouldn't know.

I've been once to Greece and everything was awesome. Cute girls smile all the time, everyone was very kindly and helpful. When they heard I speak another language they asked if they could help me somehow. Perhaps that's because I was a tourist.
