Why do you Gaijin-sans always get interested and pick up those poisonous looking kanjis which even we wouldn't use more than once throughout whole our lives? Just correct what you picked up in ordinary books or texts.
That reminds me: how do (native Japanese) decide when to use kanji and when to use kana? (in typing, at least) There doesn't seem to be a pattern in it: one sentence they'll use the kana version, the next the kanji. If I had to guess I think it has to do with removing ambiguity, but I can't say for sure.
