I had the impression that Armenians were mostly friendly watermelon sellers and Georgians were very hospitable to foreigners who make the plunge into their language, while Azeris are very skeptical of outsiders and North Caucasians were very tribalistic in general.

Some tatars lived and mixed, some didn't mix. It's not really common. Most tanned people you would find in the south.

Ukrainian folk music is very cool, they have influences from both halves of Europe + instruments they learned how to make from traders coming across the black sea. Very unique. Plus, up until Stalin came along and disbanded them, they had guilds of blind musicians who would wander the countryside singing songs and playing hurdy gurdies/banduras. They even had their own made up language for sharing songs with each other, so that when they translated it back into Ukrainian everyone would be singing their own unique version of the tune.

Well 2019 is election year so maybe we can get back on the right path. I'll be pretty blunt though but Ukraine is a house divided. It's kinda like Yugoslavia where people with different background are combined. These people were never really combined with each other until the Soviet Union.

Imagine Korea, Mongolia, and Japan combined into one state. If Ukraine were to fracture it would do so along these lines. With maybe the 2 top yellow regions going to orange.

I don't know about the western Balkans, but our food may be nice thanks to the 5 centuries long Ottoman occupation. That had quite an impact on our cuisine, and we've got loads of things in common with them.
I've tried some Russian/East Slav food because I have a Russian neighbour whose (Russian) wife sometimes gives me food, and well, it's in a single word, bland. It doesn't have that "kick" you get out of Balkan foods, it feels like something is missing from them and you're not left satisfied by it.
Or his wife may be a shoddy cook - I really don't have enough experience with East Slav cuisine to be making broad statements like "it sucks" or "it's bland".
