Our whole democracy is a joke. A tiny fraction of the population actually bothers to go out and vote for a bunch of plastic "representatives" who are beholden to moneyed interests. All of the shit-flinging between factions and parties is just spectacle to make us feel like they're these diametrically opposed good/evil teams, and you need to join one to "save" the country from the other, despite the fact that neither one really wants to fundamentally alter it at the core.

We all miss the old America. The America which stayed out of old world shit and remained pure. The America to which Europeans people could go into exile and start a new life in a completely different place no longer exists. Wilson didn't single-handedly bring America into the war. Lots of things happened. Britain blockaded German sea trade with USA, meaning only the allies could buy and lend from America. Meaning that America's economy grew massively, at the same time it became dependent on the allies winning the war - Otherwise they could not repay the loans or make good on the millions of tonnes of supplies bought on credit.
Also British blockade of the seas with a superior surface fleet forced the Germans to try to blockade with submarines. At first they did not attack civilian vessels without warning, but then the British began hiding heavy weapons onboard civilian trade vessels. German subs emerged and requested the crew to evacuate to lifeboats because the vessel would be sunk, in accordance with international conventions. However the British came up with the brilliant idea of equipping civilian craft with guns. German subs surfacing would be surprised and sunk when the (civilian) sailors would drag cloth of big guns. Thus the unrestricted submarine doctorine was introduced as a countermeasure.
