I still don’t understand why we didn’t just support the rebels in 1991. The Iraqi middle class wouldn’t have been destroyed by sanctions, therefore no post-Saddam insurgency and Iraq transforms into an at least somewhat stable democracy.

saddam was a genocidal maniac who ruled iraq as a ruthless barbaric despot, who not only constantly threatened his neighbors but actually did invade kuwait, made constant threads across the world to countries in europe and north america, and funded international terror groups throughout the region.
