Why are Asian-Americans so self-loathing?
So I grew up in North Jersey which is an area with a high Asian population (Koreans and Chinese) and I've noticed that they seem to hate everything about themselves, and culture.
They hate their appearance, they wish they were taller, had bigger eyes, and blonde hair.
They seem do dislike their traditional practices and seem them as obsolete, and only for old people.
I noticed this mostly with people between the ages 13-30 that I know in the area.
Aren't American-Koreans more likely to be into their gook culture now since Kpop became a thing? Is that a trend over there? I can't tell myself, cause in my area it's mostly Filipinos and Viets.
Most non-whites do if they're suddently thrown in a fully white environment. Nothing strange, it's like putting a cat into a cage full of dogs

They're only into it because it's trendy and cool. This is probably the last piece of national pride they have for their country. Also, people in my area like it because Ailee grew up nearby.

I don't understand Asian men. They have good jobs, they make 75K a year, but they're complete incels. With all their credentials and income they could get any white woman they want, but they're angry that Asian women don't like them. As a result of everything they become extremely liberal, and they like to pretend that they're oppressed because they're Asian.

As far as I can tell they actually don't make anything like music, independent films, street wears, and the like. They only buy them up or sell them to their ilk. Those Asians making animeish stuff or video games in the west look relatively more cultural outgoing and open minded to other races than those incels at least to me, even though its geeky.
What do you want me to say? I can't actually speak Korean because they force you to either learn Spanish or Chinese in school and despite my family's grievances I never took the time to learn Korean (which is something that I now regret).

I guess it has to do with the fact that they don't like the idea of being forced to live up to some cultural expectation that they cannot achieve, because they were not born into it.

Just imagine that you learn English in school and parents speak English to you but once you step out you need to act like Japanese because you're technically Japanese from the roots
You just have no idea how to do that

That's kind of how my parents felt. They were both born in America and my grandparents were born in Asia. They had a hard time participating in two cultures that are nothing alike.

Given the modern political climate of the west, Japan is too high on this chart. Anglo countries are getting incredibly collective minded, can't be this low. China and Korea don't make individual cultural stuff in art or entertainment or fashion at all. If they do, will be lower.

The vast majority of non-whites tend to create enclaves. East Asians are the only anomaly in that they are very well integrated to the host nation and seem to have very little connection to their origins. They seem more like white people with downs syndrome than their own distinct identity to me sometimes.
Here in LA most Asians still follow their traditions with pride. That being said the longer the family has been here the less important it becomes.
