Most of the hype and reputation surrounding Chainlink is that it's the only 'oracle solution' and that the crypto world and anything touching the crypto world, like banking, will need to embrace their services.
This ignores that:
1. Chainlink doesn't actually solve the oracle problem. To get an answer on a smart contract payout, it's just voting via an agreed-to number of node operators. Which is prone to manipulation.
2. Like this article presents, others can create their own oracle solutions and don't really need Chainlink's voting mechanism when you have more reputable sources of information. An example would be a smart contract that takes automotive pricing in to account. Kelley Blue Book would be the trusted oracle for that car price information agreed to by both parties.
