Plebeian opinion. Chinese food proves how strange western culture is food-wise. It arbitrarily rejects perfectly healthy and delicious food just because it's 'icky' or was at one point in the past associated with being poor. There is a split between the foreigners who embrace the food culture and those who try to fight it, but the ones who fight it just end up eating, like you say, poor quality western food while those who embrace it have their eyes opened to an entire new world of tastes, textures and ingredients. I speak and read absolutely zero Chinese and had no problems using DiDi in Beijing. The app is in English and translates into Chinese for the driver.
The only problem with WeChat pay is getting money into it
How the fuck is either of those difficult to use? All that springs to mind is when a Didi driver phones you and asks for a detailed description of where you're waiting. I guess that can be tricky.
Even if they do that you can just ting bu dong them and then there's a messaging feature on the app where you can send pre-made responses and the app will translate into Chinese. "My position is accurate according to GPS" is one of them.

Don't know where you've been but the ones I've used in several cities and spent 10000s of rmb over several years have almost always: used the messaging system, gone to the place I've said, waited the set amount of time they have to (a few minutes). The cancellation fee only comes into play if you've ordered them to come, then after 5 minutes (?) changed your mind. It's an excellent service even if it will never reach its hayday when vouchers were everywhere and you'd get free rides/a few yuan per ride quite often, although they did recently start pumping out 50% off zhuan che coupons to crush/compete with a new app recently.

I think there are a couple reasons:
1. As above, the biggest is the fear of his life in China becoming a living hell and having no other option than going back to China.
2. While Cmilk has done well subtly appealing to alt-right men, Winston's racism against blacks probably means his politics are equally off-putting for the vast majority of his audience.
3. While the guy clearly has an inferiority complex (the suit, "I train doctors', constantly mentioning my wife is a doctor, etc), I think he has some self-awareness of his limits. According to his South African friend whom I first read about his daughter from, Winston dropped out of high school. He is probably self-aware enough to avoid topics which requires some intelligence to discuss and sticks to talking about his personal observations and things you can just BS about.
TLDR: He avoids politics because he is self-aware enough to know he is an uneducated racist shithole who sticks to what earns him the most money
I'd understand if he never talked politics, but the issue is when he does and whitewashes everything. Like his video about religion in China and how he completely glossed over people being arrested for having prayer meetings in their home or for not going to a state approved church.
