Congratulations

Usually go there 2 times a month to buy alcohol and snus.

Gratulerer med dagen söta bror!

Congratulations. I would visit, and I don't think I've met one outside the Internet. I've heard they have special meatballs. And I admire the vikings.

By celebrating the swedish race

1) I'd probably not visit Sweden it seems kind of boring. What do you do in Sweden you can't do in USA?
2) Boring but respectable but kinda pathetic too. Just another well-off kinda desperate European microcountry.

Hopefully I will see Malmö and Lund in a few months. Will see more of Denmark and Germany tho tbqh. Excited to see sweden.

Hor mor du?

I genuinely love going to Stockholm because it's so diverse. I feel like I'm in a real big city.

I also love your subway system and your big shopping mall in Stockholm.

Attached: carsoncity_sweden_6x9_021_ec.jpg (2000x1245, 189K)

Malmö and lund are arguably the worst cities user. I would recommend at least visiting Gotland ( Visby ) and Stockholm

I studied in Lund for a year. It's an amazing city. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. You are also right next to Denmark, just a quick ride over a bridge to enjoy the best Copenhagen has to offer.

>Would you ever visit Sweden?
Yes at some point in the future
>What is your general opinion about our country?
very good but you seriously need to get the migrant issue under control, just like us

Why does Sweden still have a national day? That's nationalistic and exclusive. I feel oppressed

Well see my road trip starts in Düsseldorf and I hope to see Amsterdam, Hamburg, flensburg, and a ton of other places, the danish west coast, Copenhagen is where it’ll end and I figure I might as well check out malmö and Lund since I’ll be close with a car. From what I read about malmö and Copenhagen.....it’s going to probably be lots of fun in the 3-4 days I’m around those cities. Lots of dance clubs to check out!

Tbh I’m excited for malmö/Lund. It’ll be comfy in a Swedish way.

Stockholm and any other city is too far of a drive to reasonably visit with the time I have in Europe. I plan to checkout sweden again in another trip.

I will visit sweden this summer

There is a place called Ales Stenar ( Ale's Rocks) somewhere in Scania. Basically a bunch of viking monuments that are overlooking the sea. I went there as a kid, very very beautiful, would definitely recommend.

Attached: Ales_stenar_2015-3.jpg (1200x800, 181K)

nice country, awful people

In middle school i was told how based and comfy sweden is and how people there dont give a fuck about who you are which is good for me because i hate drawing attention. The language is also cool sounding to me and swedish seems relatively easy to learn. So i wanted to at least visit it pre-immigrant crisis but now im not so sure.

du är min bror för att vara ärlig

Will definitely check out! Malmö has a lot of dance clubs I will definitely check out. So does Copenhagen. I will definitely be exploring scania with some locals I know

Be careful in Malmö user I've heard nothing but bad stuff about that place

Attached: 1512426666809.png (670x565, 36K)

I’m an American man from Texas. I’ll be good tbqh. Just gonna feel naked without my gun on me tbqh.

I feel bad for not knowing swedish or danish well. But I know german well. Your Nordic languages are hard senpai

Can a Swede tell me about Skane? Looks like a generally comfy place, but I can't help but think it's full of tourist traps.
Also, are there any nice (preferably small-ish) cities in the northern part of the country?

Attached: 1514662110450.png (1080x1080, 690K)

Skane and the rest of Southern Sweden*

I think that the migrant crisis thing is vastly overblown, should still be a great place.

Skåne is basically a very nice, pleasant and scenic area. Sadly, it is also the area that is most affected by the migrant crisis, and it is where most of the muslims in Sweden now reside ( mainly the infamous Malmö and the surrounding parts). Northern Sweden is generally very comfy, especially Swedish Lappland which is considered the last true Wilderness of Europe along with Finnish Lappland. Gotland is also an extremely comfy place where you can see old viking runestones and architecture/structures, the island is almost entirely Swedish with some Finnish elements.

I'd love to explore the North one day, there are probably all kinds of small towns full of history.
Thank you for the explanation, and thank you for telling me about Gotland; it might've just flown under the radar for me if you hadn't told me about it.

Visby is the capital of Gotland and in my opinion the best city in all of Sweden. I'm from Stockholm but I'd love to live there one day

I already visited last September. Stockholm is comfy but also weird. All the memes about Nords being socially autistic are true. Obviously the standard is great however I could never shake the feeling that I was in a hospital. Old buildings are gorgeous, new buildings make me want to vomit.

>Would you ever visit Sweden?
Unfortunately no... (。•́︿•̀。)

>What is your general opinion about our country?
A rich country
A happy country
A country of high state of welfare
Tall people with blond hair

if youre looking for a comfy place i dont recomend, take småland instead

I like Sweden enough that I moved here. Country forest and wilderness everywhere. Loads of wild animals and birds.
Now I just need to hurry up and learn Swedish and find a job.

>Gotland
Do you have a city, area, prefecture named Gothia?
Any relation to the ancient Goths?

I was in a restaurant and tourist group from Sweden stood up from their tables and sang a song. It was very nice feeling.

visited twice, nice ppl, im gona move there

Norway > Denmark >> Iceland >> Finland >>>> Sweden

>Would you ever visit Sweden?
every summer, to my cottage on Gotland.
You and Denmark have really cheap beer compared to Norway so we go over the borders to buy stuff, popularly called "Svenskehandel". Which is what the norwegian user earlier in the thread was referring to.
>What is your general opinion about our country?
Good question. Love/hate as it stands, 10 years ago i'd love you. Not just talking about the refugee situation, you can be really condescending at times. If you want examples I'll give you some.

Attached: Snorra Edda PH.jpg (650x227, 81K)

But you Swedes don't celebrate it?
youtube.com/watch?v=l5g_letfrjQ

I am Goth, yes. The Goths came from here, and some of us stayed here.

Where did you move from?

I'm a britbong from the UK. Just finishing up my masters here. Hoping to stick around.

>highly educated European immigrant
Oh how nice. Enjoy your stay

Attached: 827.jpg (640x684, 34K)

End this meme.

Unlike you this day first became our national day in 1983 so that we also would have a national day. Both we and Denmark don't have as big a national day as you but that doesn't mean we don't celebrate it. You have had 17 mai tradition for many many years while our "official national day" has not even existed in more than 40 years yet we have been a nation for many 100 of years.

Our main nationalday is actually midsummers and it remain as our biggest celebration.

I'ts cheap for norweigans. It's like germany for swedes.

...

Visby is reallu comfy. I have been to Sweden tens of times, granted most of my visits were to Haparanda to buy snus. I would like to travel around a bit more.

Ha, thanks. Sometimes I do worry though about being lumped in with others in the general immigrant scene. I think this has made me attempt to hyper integrate. I've made Swedish friends (don't hang out with British expats), try my best to learn the language as quick as I can, pick up rubbish when I'm out hiking and carry it out. Every time I see a romanian beggar outside of ICA or harrassing people on the train it makes my blood boil.

>Skåne
If you want to visit D*nmark why don't you go somewhere less shit? Sweden is a big country which is quite different depending on where you are.

Stockholm area:
The city itself. Old town etc.
30K islands in the archipelago. You'd need access to a boat for that though.
Close to Uppsala. A university city if you're a student and like to party. You should know someone there if you want in on the fun though.
Dirt cheap to go to Finland, Åland or whatever in the baltic by a boat over night. As long as you don't buy food on the boat it's insanely cheap.

Dalecarlia:
Very traditional. Very unique.
Lot's of villages that speak their own languages. Some villages even have different dialects of their village language within the village in extreme cases.
Lots of forests. Great for picking berries and mushrooms.
Midsummer celebration is by far the best in Dalecarlia.
Some ski resorts in the northwest. Bunch of Sámi and reindeer there that will troll you by herding their reindeer across the road, leaving you stuck there for 10 minutes.

Norrland:
Sami and shit in the far north. Not really that interesting desu.
Beautiful fells and stuff. Åre and other places around there are great for skiing. You also have some ski resorts in the far north.
Kiruna has the ice hotel.
It's mostly uninhabited forests though.

Gotland:
Island with a lot of history. The medieval town of Visby is pretty cool.
It used to be a very important center of trade for the baltic region.
It's so full of artifacts and stuff that still hasn't been found yet that it's illegal to use a metal detector there.
Packed with tourist shit. You can make your own chainmail and swords and shit. I've gone on a bunch of things with my class there where they taught us how to forge weapons and make food and live in general back in medieval times.
Literally full of LARPers that do reenactments. Reddit users threaten to sacrifice you to Oden if they see you with a phone.

What a load of crap, why not celebrate the unification of your country even if it is many hundred years old? We also celebrate midsummer, and it's not your day just because you sing and dance.

Goths came from Kalmar. They were later invaded and enriched by the Swedes. The Swedes continued south and tried to do the same to the Dani, but the barbarians they were(are) refused to accept our cock, culture and langauge(they still don't have one) so we killed most of them and banished the rest to the barren, hot and sandy wastelands of present day "D*nmark". The goths on Gotland speak a funny language.

>pick up rubbish when I'm out hiking and carry it out.
Ohhh right! I remember you from a while back actually. You're based as fuck for doing that, I do the same. It's really appreciated

Ah yes, the Haparanda Snus cartel! They must be making big bucks

>unification of your country
??????
That hasn't happened yet.

Our country was unified in the 1200's or something but midsummer has always been more important for us

If those are the terms we're operating with then we might aswell celebrate the year Norway was first unified into one kingdom, 872 AD (Harald Hårfagre) instead of syttende mai.
(I'm not the user you're responding to and I don't agree with his overreaction and misunderstandings, just to make that clear.)

Yeah, I think I mentioned doing it before and my general anxiety about being considered "just another immigrant". My next goal is to get a nice Swedish flag to hang up on the balcony. I wish I'd got one in time for nationaldag but I'll try and get one for the next flag day.

>Ah yes, the Haparanda Snus cartel! They must be making big bucks

120 million kr per year according to one source from 2007. Could be double that nowadays. And 90 of the customers are finns:D

Hmm but Sweden has never been conquered so we never had any independence or anything to celebrate

absolutely based. Respect for nature is important

It seemed like a vast place, with hills here and there - and with a fairly pleasant climate from what I could tell. And I'm a sucker for places like that.
Thank you for that summary; if I ever swing by there, I'll make sure to check out Dalecarlia and Norrland, at the very least.
Also, how well does the average person in these parts speak English? I love rural places, but if the situation is the same as here, nobody would really know any English and that'd suck big time.

Most people speak English, you might encounter old people who don't however.

>ywn be a haparanda Snus-smuggler making huge amounts of money while also providing enjoyment for Finns
why
even
live

It doesn't matter where you go in Sweden or in Nordic countries for that matter. Pretty much everyone speaks decent english.

Nice. Don't know why but i always like people who stayed in their ancestral lands.
>funny language
How different is it from common Swedish?

>My next goal is to get a nice Swedish flag to hang up on the balcony. I wish I'd got one in time for nationaldag but I'll try and get one for the next flag day.
You can buy one in most shops, m8.

It's Scania in English, btw.

Thank you, anons.
I had no idea that most people could speak it decently, that is certainly nice to hear. I wonder why, though. Even some younger people over here may have a tough time handling a conversation in English.
Thank you, as well.

92% of Swedes speak English. It's comparable to the US, where 95% speak English. Arguably the most proficient at English in the world if you don't count native English speakers. Norway, Denmark and the Netherlands are about equal.

There's hardly any thrill in the smuggling operation, you just load the snus in your car and drive over the border:D The snus ban is one of the most stupid things and some people really make a lot of money with it, skitsnus like Odens costs like 14 eur in haparanda and then they sell it to kids in southern Finland for 50 eur. We even had our own snus production before EU, pic related.

Attached: 1097.jpg (640x480, 42K)

Okay tell me any country in Europe that has not been ruled by another country for most of their history that have this celebration even if their country has existed for hundreds of years? I'll wait. Denmark had their official national day yesterday, did you hear anything about it?

Once again don't forget that this day was created 1983 by politicians while in Norway it has been a celebration since 1814.

Damn, selling Odens for 50 euro huh. Brb going to Finland

FUCK SWEDEN

>Any relation to the ancient Goths?

>The Gutes or the Gotlanders (in Swedish gutar) are the population of the island of Gotland. The ethnonym is related to that of the Goths (Gutans), and both names were originally Proto-Germanic *Gutaniz. Their language is called Gutnish (gutniska).

There has also been a historical divide between Geats and Goths, even though the names stem same source and word.

>Geatas was originally Proto-Germanic *Gautoz and Goths and Gutar (Gotlanders) were *Gutaniz. *Gautoz and *Gutaniz are two ablaut grades of a Proto-Germanic word *geutan with the meaning "to pour" (modern Swedish gjuta, modern German giessen). The word comes from an Indo-European root meaning to pour, offer sacrifice. There were consequently two derivations from the same Proto-Germanic ethnonym.

>It is a long-standing controversy whether the Goths were Geats. Both Old Icelandic and Old English literary sources clearly separate the Geats (Isl. Gautar, OEng Geatas) from the Goths/Gutar (Isl. Gotar, OEng. Gotenas); but the Gothic historian Jordanes wrote that the Goths came originally to Dacia from the island of Scandza. Moreover, he described that on this island there were three tribes called the Gautigoths (cf. Geat/Gaut), the Ostrogoths (cf. the Swedish province of Östergötland) and Vagoths (Gutar?) ‒ this implies that the Geats were Goths rather than vice versa. The word Goth is also a term used by the Romans to describe related, culturally linked tribes like the Tervingi and the Greuthungs, so it may be correct to label Geats as Goths.

This is why the once Geatish city Gothenburg is named 'Gothen-burg', for example.

That's some really neat-looking snus you posted Finnbro. Did they seriously shut down all the snus production in Finland just because of stupid ass EU laws?

Skåne has all of Swedens landscape types exept alps and archipelagos. Neighboring Blekinge has the latter though

>Strengbergs snus factory located in Jakobstad ( Pietarsaari, Finland ) was the first Snus factory.

According to one source. They closed down in 1998, but I don't know when the Strengbergs Grov was discontinued. Quite recently apparently, so could have been because of the EU. That was when the selling of snus was made illegal here. I would have liked to try that, they also made stjärnsnus that older swedes might remember.

I know but I need to get something to secure the flagpole to the wall or the door frame. I was just a bit lazy and could have done it with a minimum of forethought.

>Dacia
Is that in Sweden or does he mean the lands where modern Romania is located now?

Found a source that directly links the shutting of Strengbergs to EU regulations, it seems that it killed the Finnish snus industry. Shame to be honest, swedish match makes quality products, but would be nice to have some options.

I have been to west Sweden almost annually. Not much kara boga action going on there. The camping site is really pasty white, or at best the sort of orange-brown us Scandis go when left out in the sun.

>Skåne has all of Swedens landscape types
>exept alps and archipelagos
No.
t. went there recently

>I know but I need to get something to secure the flagpole to the wall or the door frame.
If you buy a facade flagg (fasadflagga) you will get a wall mount with the pole.

That's sad and quite frankly retarded. I don't like talking politics on Jow Forums but I fucking hate the EU so much god damn it
