I live in nyc and want to gtfo but I'm trapped here for now. If you enjoy socialism you'll love it here. If not, go to Penntucky which is right next door. There is no such thing as a middle class. People are either taking handouts or ridiculously rich.

Used to be; perhaps in the early 2000's or 90's. Now.. it's a liberal shithole filled with too many homeless fucks, liberal/LBGQT fucks, jews, blacks & overweight NYPD who couldn't chase you down two blocks without huffing and puffing.

Rent is 250% higher than anywhere else in the country, the only good thing about NYC is it has the most jobs (especially in my field).

Can't wait to move outta this shithole or at least move up towards Putnam county and take the Metro North in everyday.

NYC is noisy, dirty, and crowded - you have to pay top dollar to reduce any of that. I guess if you like living up high in a penthouse, it could be tolerable, but it's such a pain to get anywhere, you're dealing with tourists and assholes 24/7, and while the "culture" is there, it's really the same shit over and over, after a while. The same assholes in the same overpriced clubs/bars/restaurants/theaters/whatever.

Its not as cool as it used to be. While back I used to think of NYC as the pinnacle where you can have access to everything you want. I second this. If you are going to move to the burbs DO NOT DO IT JUST OUTSIDE OF NYC. Move farther out to a place where all of the girls are not sucked up like a vacuum into the city. The areas right outside of NYC could easily vanish and everyone die instantly from one bolt of lightning and it would probably not change anything at all.

Just make sure you live somewhere interesting like Brooklyn (the gentrifying parts of Crown Heights are a good balance), and not in the worst touristy areas (anywhere in Midtown), or in the sterile parts that have all been taken over by old rich people (e.g. UES).

Is this how people feel? I live really REALLY close to NYC without actually being in it, so going there is just a thing for me. Thinking about going is just a thing too. It's just another place compared to NJ, upstate NY, new england, etc. and one that I avoid unless I need something I can only get in NYC (which is almost nothing)

If you are that close you are pretty much in the bubble. If all you need to do is catch a subway or a taxi and you are in then you pretty much live there.

Go a little further out where it takes even a little effort to get inside the city and its a damn desolate wasteland.
