Are you joking? Germany is the cheapest country in the world, if we take their welfare into account. They have enormously high subsidies to everything. Top-tier healthcare for free, top-tier universities for free, perfect infrastructure for free. Do you have a children? Kindergeld. Do you want to rent a flat? Here you are, a cheap 100 sqm apartment from Wohnungsgenossenschaft + Wohngeld, so you pay literally nothing and some people even EARN MONEY from renting a fucking flat from the state, that's how much money they get as welfare (They rent, not let).

Food is cheaper than anywhere in Europe and of better quality.

I can't think of anything that would be more expensive in Germany than here, and if you include their welfare, they basically spend nothing.

West Germany was already one of the richest and strongest economically countries in the world in the 1970s, when East Europe was basically closed for them.
