I would claim that my country's prison doesn't meet the international standards for human rights. They wouldn't be able to do anything then.

It depends on who you are. Breivik couldn't really get out of "solitary"(which is nothing in comparison to what american solitary is like let alone the rest of the world) because of what he did and because he was still actively supporting his ideology.

In even max-security prisons, you only have to spend 12 hours in your cell a day(while in America it's common to spend 23 hrs a day in a much less comfortable cell).

Depends highly on the prison, most people won't go to those supermax prisons you always see on TV and the nicer ones for white collar crimes are like country clubs. God fucking help you if you get in trouble in the south though

Do the "decent" prisons have things like putting people in the hole, or other forms of solitary confinement? Because that shit violates the 8th amendment yet no one seems to be bothered by it.

If you're constantly being a piece of shit you might get solitary confinement but more likely transferred to a higher security prison. Privately run prisons are a huge mistake either way

It works in Norway. Recidivism rates are low and there's little violence within their prisons.

It does work but Norway's has way less of a percentage of their population being unsalvagable trash either. Also I don't know why everyone thinks the law should make an exception for breivik, the entire point of a legal system is to be consistent and objective
