That’s the only time they have to communicate and explore themselves. As soon as they turn into adults they become wageslaves.

Same reason americans romanticise their high school even though it's just a place where kids get shot.

Some say it's getting better, but I'm not sure if it's true.
I personally don't work late and usually finish my work by 6pm except when I get some emergent problem, I work from 9:30am btw,
but I know a lot of people working from 8:30am till 9pm or even 10pm.
The biggest problem is that many people don't see it as crazy and problematic.

That would make sense if the Japanese economy actually did better because of their rigid work culture.
However if you compare Japan with other developed countries like France, UK, Netherlands their economies are actually doing better than Japan per capita even though they are not nearly as disciplined and work-focused
