Allow me to interject for a moment. First of all, the correct spelling is Elsaß, or as I have taken to call it, Elsaß-Lothringen.
Second of all, Prussia was the German state that unified Germany. Losing that is equivalent to a man losing his testicles.

They are small islands so France didn't try to annex them back when it took back all Angevin territories in France after the Hundred Years' War. One French man tried to annex one of the islands by himself once, though.
